ROWAN MARTIN
Director, World Parrot Trust's Africa Conservation Programme
Rowan is the Director of the World Parrot Trust’s Africa Conservation Programme, which works to address threats to parrots in Africa with a particular focus on tackling overexploitation driven by the pet trade. His work on addressing the harmful trade of parrots spans 15 years and during this time he has watched the emerging role of online platforms including social media and e-commerce in promoting and facilitating trade. Rowan’s research into the wildlife trade online has underpinned successful advocacy in the international policy arena and secured enhanced action by corporations to combat crime.
Rowan has a Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield UK and is a Research Associate at the Fitzpatrick Institute of African Ornithology at the University if Cape Town South Africa.
